The Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership ( SHAP) is delighted to announce a post Christmas initiative that will hopefully appeal to all local people keen to do something to help and support families living through a freezing winter in Ukraine.
At best most people in Ukraine have only 3 to 4 hours electricity each day . Basic necessities such as lights are a real challenge .
Many of us will celebrate Christmas with candles -on the dining room table , in the lounge and on the fireplace -and very lovely they will look too .
But when Christmas is over please please don’t throw the left over candles away . Bring them along to the following drop off points:
Penny Post, Hillsprings, East Garston RG17 7HW
Salvation Army Church Chapel St, Gorse Hill, Swindon SN2 8DA-from 3rd January -10.00 to 3.00 weekdays
St Paul’s Church Walliscote Rd, BS23 1EF between 3-6 th January during hours 10-12:00 and to go into office in building to left of church.
Community Centre at Christ Church
Cricklade St, Swindon SN1 3HB
Weekdays between 10 and 4
Marlborough Golf Club
The Common
Marlborough
SN8 1DU
Weekdays between 8 and 4
Ellendune Community Centre
Barrett Way
Wroughton
SN4 9LW
From 3rd Jan – Weekdays
SHAP will collect every last one and with the help of lots of volunteers will make hundreds of new candles -transport them out to Ukraine in the new year and help the tenacious and resilient Ukrainian people get through an unimaginably tough few months .

“ It is so important that the tragedy of the Russian aggression in my country remains in the headlines . At the same time we want to link Christmas celebrations with the urgent need for candles to provide basic light during the cold dark months of winter in Ukraine. I am sure that wonderful local people will respond enthusiastically and I thank them in advance for their kindness”
