What’s On 2020-05-08

It’s the 75th anniversary of VE Day and 4 LEGS radio will be celebrating like everyone else in the Lambourn Valley. We’ve got stories and interviews with people who remember WWII and VE day, there’s poetry, 1940’s music and there’ll be ‘live’ chat with a number of people in Eastbury, East Garston and Lambourn to find out how they’ve been celebrating. We’ll also hear what to expect with regards to travel when the Corona Virus is over,  about volunteers making scrubs for GWH in Swindon and we’ve our usual weekly Pop Quiz. All this between 7am and 4.30pm. Enjoy!

7am – 9am The Pete Brady Breakfast Show
Two hours of music to set you up for the VE Day celebrations. The featured artist today is the Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin.  Don’t Miss it!

 

 

9am – 10am This Week with Penny
Nicola Morley from Lambourn Sports Club talks to Penny and explains how plans have changed and encourages everyone to party at home and enter the Lambourn VE Day photo competition. Also Veronica Bailey from Fare Wise Travel discusses with Penny what the new normal is likely to be for travellers, airlines, cruise ships and the industry as a whole and Katie Wallis from Team Scrubbers Newbury Area explains how people from Lambourn to Newbury are making scrubs for Great Western Hospital in Swindon and what help they need. Penny will be also be playing ‘Eight on the Eighth’, an anthology of eight poems, each delivered by a different character from Andy Kempe’s play, written to commemorate this VE Day anniversary.

10 am – 12 noon Face2Face with Tim and Linda Forrester
This week Linda and Tim have been promoted or relegated and present Face2Face at 10am. It will be 40s music all the way as we look at the last week of the war and hear the personal stories of people remembering VE Day 75 years ago’. There will be a 2 minute silence at 11am to remember all those that lost their lives in WWII.

12noon  – 1pm Pop Quizzical with Tim Stutt
It’s the popular weekly Pop Quiz with music throughout the ages to answer questions about. No doubt there will be tracks from 1940’s in line with the day’s celebrations of the end of WWII.

1pm – 4.30pm Yabber Yabbers VE Day special with Chris Capel and Pete Brady
It’s a busy 3.5 hours of 1940’s music, interviews, stories and live chats with residents from our villages.  Today’s guest is Tony King who was actually 3 on VE Day. Tony will talk about his Father who went to war in the Middle East and North African desert in 1941, 6 months before Tony was born and came back in late 1945 to meet me for the first time.
