It was “Just Lush Nails and Beauty” as the weekend sponsor at Welford Park CC this weekend but the results were far from Lush.

The club were hit hard with availability with only 20 regular players available, The 2nds visited Shinfield and despite having the home side in trouble at 78-5 missed chances a 6th wicket stand of 125 put the home side in control with Shinfield eventually reaching 229-9 off their 40 overs, Rob Hill the pick of the bowlers with 4-52.
The batting was worse, 10-3 in 11 balls quickly became 33-7 Despite 20 from Manu Chadha. A new 8th wicket 2nd Xl record stand of 58 put a little respectability on the board but Welford were all out for 112 with guest player Wasim Jamadar top scoring on 31 and Mike Harrison not out 28.

The 1sts were at home to Ley Hill from South Bucks who were asked to bat first. An early wicket with 10 on the board was a false dawn as Craig Peterson (144) and Lewis Thompson (95) set about the Welford attack putting on 199 for the 2nd Wicket. Welford only had themselves to blame dropping Peterson on 37 and 66 which would have made all the difference as only 32 runs came from the other players as Ley Hill declared on 297-6 from 50 overs giving them 50 to bowl the Park out. Will Herrington was the pick of the bowlers with 4-57.
In reply Michael Goldsworthy was out for 23 making the score 49-1 which quickly became 56-2 but then Ben Myers & Will Herrington got on top and kept Welford on pace. At the second drinks break Welford were 190-2 with 16 overs remaining….so just like the last home game, in with a chance. However Will (77) was caught 2nd ball after drinks and then Ben (79) went in the next over and realistically the chance to win as well. Three more wickets fell for the addition on only 24 more runs (214-7) so it was left to Ian Herrington & John Westbrook to curb their attacking ability and stop the Welford Wobble. This was achieved as the pair batted 7 overs only scoring 14 runs to achieve the draw despite John getting out off the penultimate ball once the game was safe – 228-8.

Performance summary:-
2nds Rob Hill 4-52
1st Will Herrington 4-57 Ben Myers 79, Will Herrington 77
